Maughold Gulls recorded in Spain and Portugal
The Port Lewaigue ringing report for 2011 has been forwarded to the Commissioners by Port-e-Vullen resident, Sean Gray; A member of the Manx ringing group. The full report can be read here and includes interesting information and photos. Sean tells the Commissioners that Blackcaps remain the most ringed species. Although there were not as many birds ringed at Port Lewaigue in 2011due to the less inclement windy weather.
The Manx ringing group have had a record year this year with over
5000 new birds being ringed. In particular the colour ringed projects on Cormorant and
large Gulls are paying dividends with Cormorants from the Maughold colony being
see as far away as Hampshire and Aberdeen. Four Lesser Black backed Gulls with the
colour rings on have been seen down in Southern Spain and Portugal and with
only eleven ringed that's quite a return.
