Barrule Memorial Walk
Sunday, 9th
November – Barrule Memorial Walk
On 23rd April 1945, a group of American servicemen was heading
to Northern Ireland from Essex for a week's leave. It was a misty day and their
plane hit the side of Barrule - only yards from the summit. All 31 servicemen were killed.
There is a memorial to these young men at the place where they crashed.
We will be visiting this memorial on the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday
and placing some Poppy crosses there. Weather
permitting; we will meet at 2pm to walk to the memorial. Lifts are available
for those who are not strong walkers a good part, but not all, of the way.
Meeting place.
As you travel along the Coastroad from Ramsey and pass the Hibernian
crossroads, you continue along a straight flat section of road before reaching
a 40mph sign. About 50 yards before the 40mph sign (coming from Ramsey) there
is a field gateway on the right which will have the MSC banner on it. This will
be our departure point.
Cancellation because of bad weather will be announced on Manx Radio and
on our Facebook page.
