"James is the Name" Auction Night!
An auction night to raise funds for an all-terrain wheelchair for James takes place at Dhoon School on the evening of Friday 27th June from 6.00 pm. Further details can be accessed
here. James lives with the condition 'Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a very serious condition that causes
muscle weakness, the muscle fibres break down and are replaced by fibrous
and or fatty tissue causing muscle to gradually weaken.
Unfortunately no
cure has yet been discovered. Generally between the age of 8 to 11 years a
wheelchair is required. At first boys may be able to propel themselves and
posture is typically good. Later, upper limb function and maintenance of
good posture is increasingly difficult and complications are more likely.
